摘要: The invention relates to a blasting apparatus (10) for activating a plurality of electrical detonators (18) after predetermined time delays. The blasting apparatus includes a plurality of remote electrical delay devices (16.1...16.6). Each device is linked to a detonator (18), and is arranged to be serially programmed with a timing signal, which originates from a central control unit (12) and which determines the time delay. A bidirectional signal harness (14), having ends which terminate at I/O ports (20,22) in the control units (12), serially links the delay devices to the control unit (12). In the event of a fault (27) or discontinuity occurring in the harness prior (14) to programming of the delay devices (16.1...16.6), the discontinuity (27) is detected and the direction of programming along the bidirectional harness (14) is reversed so that those delay devices (16.4,16.5,16.6) which, due to the break (27), cannot be programmed in the initial direction (24), are programmed with timing signals travelling along the signal line in the opposite direction (26). The invention extends to a method of activating a plurality of electrical detonators (18), as well as to the individual delay devices (16.1...16.6) forming part of the blasting apparatus (10).

摘要: Apparatus is provided for activating a plurality of groups of electrical loads, such as electrical detonators used in blasting, after respective time delays. The apparatus comprises a master control unit (10) which generates master control signals to initiate timing out of delay devices (16) associated with each load. The apparatus further includes several auxiliary control units (12) which are connectable to the master control unit. Each auxiliary control unit is adapted to control a respective group of remote electrical delay devices (16) with associated electrical loads. Each auxiliary control unit includes local control means for generating local control signals from the master control signals which are synchronised with the local control signals of other auxiliary control units, for initiating operation of the delay devices, so that a large blast can be carried out in a perfectly synchronised manner. The master control unit may transmit master programming signals to the auxiliary control units, which each program the electrical delay devices of their respective group. Synchronisation of the local control signals can be achieved in a number of different ways. A method of activating a plurality of groups of electrical loads is also described.

摘要: A communication system comprises a control station (10) and a number of remote stations (16,18,30,32) connected to the control station by a multi-conductor harness (20). The control station houses a computer and supplies the remote stations with electrical power, as well as communicating bidirectionally with the remote stations, via the harness. At each remote station, a sensor or other functional module (32) is plugged into an interface (30,40). Communication circuitry (30,36) receives data from and sends data to the control station. The remote station includes identification means (40,42,46) for storing a first code allocated to the remote station by the central computer which identifies the relative location of the remote station, as well as a second code generated at the remote station which identifies the function of the sensor or other functional module.

摘要: A testing circuit is provided for testing the operability both of a load (30) and of a capacitor (26) incorporated into a main detonator circuit and arranged to discharge into the load for detonation thereof. A test pulse is generated at a central controller to which a ring of detonators is connected on a harness. The test pulse is routed via the harness for storage in the capacitor. A controlled switch (44) is operated to allow the capacitor to discharge into the load. A transistor (52) is operated by the discharge signal, the transistor having an output for delivering a discharge value signal (56) in response to the discharge signal remaining above or falling below a threshold value. The discharge value signal is latched and is in turn used to inhibit a local oscillator (66). The inhibited signal from the oscillator is routed back to the controller so as to indicate a fault either in the capacitor (26) or in the load (30).
