摘要: Apparatus to collect solar radiation using a series of lenses or mirrors that concentrate the solar energy onto targets. A gaseous working fluid flowing through the targets is heated and optionally supplied to a heat store having an internal walled labyrinth of a suitable material to store heat energy. A heat exchanger, turbine and electricity generator are coupled to the collection and storage apparatus so as to provide a power plant for the conversion of solar energy to electricity.

摘要: A hydraulic actuator (10) which controls the operation of a cylinder valve having a valve seat (11), and a valve element (12) which is linearly reciprocable between open and closed positions with respect to valve seat (11), a valve seal housed in the closing face of valve head (13), (or a part of the valve seat (11) engaged by head (13)), a valve operator connected to the valve element (12) and operable in a release mode to move the valve element away from its valve seat and in a valve-closing mode to move the valve element towards its valve seat, and a hydraulic actuator circuit (19, 22) communicating with the valve operator and operable to apply a closing motion to the valve element (12) via the valve operator which reduces in speed as the valve element (12) moves towards the valve seat (11) and engages with the valve seal. The hydraulic actuator is particularly suitable for controlling the operation of a cylinder valve of a positive displacement type compressor having 'soft' seals, although it does have general application to hydraulic actuation of cylinder valves of other types of engine having valve controlled fluid pressure chambers which are filled, pressurised and then discharge pressure fluid in repeated cylces of operation.

摘要: A carding engine (10) having a main toothed cylinder (11), a taker-in (12), a doffer (13), and a revolving flats assembly (14) positioned above the outer periphery of the cylinder (11) in the region between the taker-in (12) and the doffer (13), in which a fixed bend (41) and a flexible bend (40) are adjustably interconnected so as to define a required working path for the moveable flats whereby the spacing between the fixed bend and the adjustable bend can be adjusted to enable any desired predetermined clearance values to be pre-set between the tips of the flats and the outer periphery of the main cylinder, and including a number of setting devices (42) which are arranged at spaced apart setting locations with respect to the working path and which are of a type such that, for a given indicated adjustment, there is a predictable adjustment movement of the flats clearances.
