The present invention provides an LNG production system and method with improved refrigeration. The refrigeration is achieved by a refrigeration device comprising a plurality of refrigerant compressors (11, 13, 15, 17) configured into a series arrangement to perform multi-stage compressions of a refrigerant, a plurality of aftercoolers (12, 14, 16, 18) each of which being coupled to each of the plurality of refrigerant compressors to cool the compressed refrigerant, a plurality of turboexpanders (19, 20) coupled to the last aftercooler (18) and configured into a series configuration to perform multi-stage expansions of the compressed refrigerant, and a plurality of refrigerant heat exchange means (33, 34) coupled to both the first (11) of the plurality of refrigerant compressors and the last (20) of the plurality of turboexpanders, so that all components form a close refrigeration cycle.

A structural block is fabricated with necessary components and structure for LNG storage and/or process. The structural block may be an LNG tank with the same configuration as that in an LNG carrier. The structural bock may also be a regasification plant or a liquefaction plant to be used for LNG process. An existing vessel, e.g. an LNG carrier, is cut apart to form a forward section and a aft section. The forward section and the aft section are moved away from each other to form a space therebetween. The structural block is then placed into the space and jointed to the forward and aft sections, by welding for example, to form an integrated new vessel. The structural block provides the new vessel with increased LNG storage and transportation capabilities as well as regasification and/or liquefaction process facilities to meet the increased demand for LNG storage, transportation and processing.

Embodiments of the present invention provide a process for liquefaction of a natural gas. The process includes cooling the natural gas with a first refrigerant provided by a first cooling system and cooling the natural gas with a second refrigerant provided by a second cooling system. The second cooling system is a single phase cooling system. The first and second cooling systems operate independently from each other. The second refrigerant is cooled with the first refrigerant so that the cooling capacity of the second refrigerant and the second cooling system is increased.

A mooring system may comprise a station keeping apparatus having a turntable rotatably mounted thereon. The station keeping apparatus is operable to movably couple to a first vessel and to a second vessel in a side-by-side configuration. The turntable is operable to freely rotate both the first and the second vessel about the station keeping apparatus. The station keeping apparatus is securable to the second vessel using a head mooring line having a length which is adjustable for aligning a heading of both the first and the second vessel with a prevailing weather direction. Further, the mooring system may comprise a rigid yoke or a soft yoke movably coupling the turntable to the first vessel for angular adjustment between the station keeping apparatus and a longitudinal center line of the first vessel.
