The present process preparing an ethylene/α-olefin copolymer is conducted in the presence of a novel transition metal complex and co-catalyst. The process is further characterizable in that the transition metal complex is a reduced transition metal complex, selectable from groups 4-6 of the Periodic System of the Elements, with a multidentate monoanionic ligand and with two monoanionic ligands, at a temperature of between 100 and 220 °C. In particular the reduced transition metal in the complex is titanium (Ti (III)).

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a polymer from ethylene, an α-olefin and optionally a diene, according to which these monomers are polymerised under the influence of a metallocene catalyst, the polymerisation taking place in the presence of a catalyst comprising a specific 2-indenyl metallocene, resulting in a bimodal, elastomeric polymer with a molecular weight distribution of more than 3.5, under such reaction conditions that the amount of water in the polymerisation medium is smaller than 0.5 ppm. The invention also relates to polymers with a specific branching index.
