摘要: An optical waveguide apparatus (30) comprises at least two total internal reflection TIR surfaces and containing a grating with fringes (31) disposed at ninety degrees to the waveguide TIR surfaces and slanted within a waveguide plane to provide a beam deflection angle within the waveguide plane; wherein an input TIR light comprises upward TIR light and downward TIR light diffracted respectively in at least first and second ranges of diffraction angles; the input TIR light with a first angular range along a first propagation direction undergoes at least two diffractions, wherein each ray from said first angular range and its corresponding diffracted ray lie on the diffraction cone of said grating, wherein each diffraction provides a unique TIR angular range along a second propagation direction.

The regions of diffraction and no diffraction may vary in size such that the width of each successive region of diffraction increases across the face of the waveguide. 摘要: A head worn display device is disclosed. Each of two display assemblies (402) includes a first waveguide (500) with a field of view and a second waveguide (500) with a field of view, where the fields of view are overlapped to generate a combined field of view for each of the display assemblies. Each of the display assemblies further includes a first collimator (406) and a second collimator (406), where each collimator is configured to direct illumination through the waveguide stack along a single axis, and where each collimator is rotated a select angle to offset the combined field of view to merge collimator pupils and generate a seamless total field of view for each of the display assemblies. Each of the display assemblies are rotated a select angle to offset the respective total fields of view along the single axis and generate a seamless wide field of view for the head worn display device.

摘要: An optical display (100) includes a waveguide (102) comprising an input coupler (104), first expansion grating (110), second expansion grating (112), and output coupler (106). The input coupler is configured to couple image light (200) from an image source (10). The first expansion grating is configured to receive the image light, expand the image light along a first axis and away from a first direction at a first angle of expansion, and direct the image light out of the first expansion grating in a second direction different than the first direction. The second expansion grating is configured to receive the image light, to expand the image light along the first axis and towards the first direction at a second angle of expansion, and direct the image light out of the first expansion grating in the second direction.
