    Abstract: A projector controller includes an object detector and control electronics, and is configured to protect audience members from intense light imposing an exclusion zone in front of a projector. The object detector is configured to optically sense a presence of an object in a detection region beneath the exclusion zone and above the audience members. The control electronics is configured to control the projector when the object detector indicates the presence of the object in the detection region. A method for protecting audience members from intense light imposing an exclusion zone in front of an output of a projector includes: (i) optically sensing a presence of an object in a detection region between the exclusion zone and the audience members, and (ii) controlling the projector when the presence of the object is sensed in the detection region.

    Abstract: Lightfield optics (204) configured to receive a modulated imaging beam from a first, reflective phase modulating, spatial light modulator, SLM, (220) and to filter and redirect the modulated imaging beam to a second, amplitude modulating, SLM (206), the lightfield optics (204) comprising:
    a first optical component (902) for disposing in the path of said modulated imaging beam, the first optical component comprising a Fourier lens configured to produce a Fourier transform of the received modulated imaging beam in a Fourier plane;
    an optical filter (904) disposed at or near the Fourier plane of said first optical component and operative to selectively filter portions of the Fourier transform corresponding to unmodulated light reflected from said first SLM (220) to create a filtered, modulated imaging beam; and
    a second optical component (906) configured to focus the filtered, modulated imaging beam on the second SLM (206).

    Abstract: A method (900) for generating images in a multi-modulation projection system, said method comprising: receiving (902) a first frame of image data; generating (906) a first set of phase drive values for driving a phase-modulating spatial light modulator SLM, said first set of phase drive values being based at least in part on said first frame of image data; driving (908) said phase-modulating SLM with said first set of phase drive values during a first time period; receiving (904) a second frame of image data; generating (912) a second set of phase drive values for driving said phase-modulating SLM, said second set of phase drive values being based at least in part on said second frame of image data; driving (914) said phase-modulating SLM with said second set of phase drive values during a second time period; modeling (916) transitional states of said phase-modulating SLM during said second time period, said transitional states being based at least in part on said first set of phase drive values and said second set of phase drive values; generating (918) a set of lightfield simulations of lightfields generated by said phase-modulating SLM and incident on an amplitude-modulating SLM, a first subset of said set of lightfield simulations corresponding to said first set of phase drive values, a second subset of said set of lightfield simulations corresponding to said second set of phase drive values, and a third subset of said set of lightfield simulations corresponding to one or more of said transitional states of said phase-modulating SLM; generating (920) sets of amplitude drive values for driving said amplitude-modulating SLM, each of said sets of amplitude drive values corresponding to an associated one of said lightfield simulations; and driving (922) said amplitude-modulating SLM with said sets of amplitude drive values.
