The power supply apparatus supplies a single-polarity discharge current having a small pulse width to the gap between the wire electrode (7) and the work (6) and allows the capacitor (4) to be efficiently recharged. For this purpose, a series circuit of an impedance element (50, 80) other than capacitance and a diode (51) is connected in parallel to the capacitor (4), the diode (51) being connected in such a manner that its polarity is opposite to that of the voltage applied for the purpose of recharging the capacitor (4).

Timers (4) and (14) are operated under mutual restrictions by gate circuits synchronized with the timing pulses from an oscillator (5).
