摘要: A method for forming a pattern, for example, an electrically conducting pattern on a glass window, comprises the steps of depositing on the ceramic substrate (12) in a desired pattern a thin layer (16) of a heat fusable material. A protective layer (26) is deposited over the pattern formed of the heat fusable material. The protective layer (26) may be formed from an oxygen barrier material and an oxygen getting material. The protective layer (26) is non-heat fusable and nonreactive with the heat fusable material (16). All of this structure can then be heated in an oxygen containing atmosphere to a temperature sufficient to permit the heat fusable material (16) to fuse to the ceramic substrate (12). The protective layer protects the fusable material from oxidation by physically blocking out oxygen and by chemically providing an oxygen getting material which will react with any oxygen which does manage to penetrate into the oxygen barrier material. The ceramic substrate (12), fused heat fusable material (16), and remaining oxygen barrier material (26) thereon are cooled back to room temperature and any remainder of the protective layer (26) is removed from the ceramic substrate (12).

摘要: A process for the manufacture of glass sheets (10), particularly electrically heated backlites (EHB's) includes applying an opaque deposite, e.g. a band (12) to a surface of that sheet. The opaque band is formed from a radiation curable paste which includes both a filler material which can fuse to the glass sheet when heated to a fusion temperature and a radiation curable material which is heat decomposable into components which are nonreactive with the glass sheet when heated to a fusion temperature. The radiation curable material is cured thereby to form a temporary bond of the radiation curable paste to the surface of the glass sheet. As an optional step in order to form an EHB, a pattern (14) of electrically conductive material is deposited on the surface of the glass sheet. This conductive material contains at least one component which is heat fusable with the surface of the glass sheet when heated to the fusion temperature. The glass sheet is passed through a heating lehr which heats the various elements to the fusion temperature whereby the fusable materials are fused to the surface of the glass sheet and the radiation curable material is heat decomposed into component which are nonreactive with the surface of the glass sheet.

摘要: An electrical terminal for connecting a heating grid on a thermal window to a source of electric power, comprises at least one bonding foot (16) and a lead area (18) to which an electrical connection can be made. The bonding foot is formed so as to have a first planar portion (22) and a second planar portion (24) connected thereto. The first and the second planar portions extend in spaced but substantially parallel planes so that, when the terminal is solder bonded to a heating grid (12) on a window, the first planar portion (22) is in close proximity to the heating grid and the second planar portion of the bonding foot is spaced from but interconnected with the grid (12) by solder (28).

摘要: This specification is directed to a method of forming a glass sheet with an oil-base ceramic paint thereon, the method having the following steps. An oil-base ceramic paint is applied to the glass sheet. The oil-base ceramic paint includes normal ceramic paint components along with, as a new component thereof, finely divided zinc metal powder. The glass sheet is heated to a temperature which softens the glass sheet sufficiently so that the glass sheet can be formed. The glass sheet and the ceramic paint thereon are engaged with a fiberglass covered forming die to form the heated glass sheet to a desired shape. The forming die is removed from engagement with the glass sheet. The finely divided zinc metal powder addition to the ceramic paint is credited with being effective to prevent sticking of any of the ceramic paint to the forming die. The glass sheet is cooled to obtain a formed glass sheet with a ceramic paint thereon.

摘要: This invention relates to a ceramic paint composition comprising a mixture of metal oxides which together act as a coloring agent for the ceramic paint. The metal oxides are nonreactive with one another and nonreactive with any elements or compounds they come in contact with while being heated to temperatures in a range up to 704°C. A low melting point glass frit is also included in the paint composition. A metal oxide powder having at least a low valence oxidation state and a high valence oxidation state is also included in the paint composition. The metal oxide is included in the ceramic paint composition in its low valence oxidation state. A vehicle is mixed with the metal oxides, the low melting point glass frit, and the metal oxide powder having at least two valence states to form all of the mentioned materials into a ceramic paint which can be applied to a glass surface. The use of the metal oxide powder in its low valence oxidation state is credited with making the ceramic paint nonstickable with respect to fiberglass surfaces which may come into contact therewith during the forming of the glass sheet upon which the paint has been placed.
