The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for feeding fuel into a circulating fluidized bed boiler. The invention is specifically concerned on feeding fine, light and/or moist fuel into the boiler. The method and apparatus for feeding light, fine, volatile and/or moist fuel into a circulating fluidized bed boiler is based on collecting circulating bed material to a return flow and introducing the return flow into communication with the fuel being introduced in the furnace (12) so that the bed material return flow and the fuel are mixed together and flow downwards in the furnace (12) for increasing the residence time of the fuel in the furnace (12).

Gas with entrained particles, such as high temperature and pressure gas from a pressurized circulating fluidized bed reactor, is filtered using a vessel having a gas inlet (4), cleaned gas outlet (5), and filtered particles outlet (13). A pulse of cleaning gas is periodically or intermittently directed to the filters (9) to dislodge the particles which have been filtered and collected on the filters (9). Shrouds (10), having tubular, parallelepiped, zig-zag, or honeycomb configurations, are provided surrounding relevant portions of the filters to prevent dislodged particles from being entrained in gas passing to other filters, and instead directing the dislodged particles toward the vessel particles outlet. The shroud walls may have openings in them to allow gas to be filtered to pass through them, but prevent dislodged particles from passing through the openings. The filters (9) may be mounted in hollow tubular or parallelepiped ducts (12) in such a way that the ducts have smooth outer walls, and the shrouds (10) may be substantially concentric with the ducts. When individual cleaning gas pulsing devices are associated with filters, the shrouds may include separate impingement and material collecting portions.

The present invention relates to a grid nozzle. A nozzle in accordance with the present invention is used advantageously in heat engineering to bring fluidizing gas to a furnace of a fluidized bed boiler. According to a most preferred embodiment, said nozzles are used for removing from a furnace solid particles drifted to the bottom of the furnace. It is typical to the grid nozzle in accordance with the present invention that it comprises a nozzle chamber (6) and a nozzle channel (8, 10) ending to a blow opening of the nozzle, which nozzle chamber and nozzle channel are limited from above by a lid (12) and a protecting cover (22, 32) attached outside the lid (12).
