A system for inspection of welds in a printed circuit board, comprising: an optical system (10) comprising a camera (15) and an illuminator (11), the optical system (10) being configured to be disposed in the vicinity of a weld to be inspected and to capture images of the weld; and processing means configured for digitally applying a photometric stereo reconstruction technique to the captured images of the weld and for assessing, based on the images, by a model for detection of anomalies, whether the weld is defective or not.
