摘要:
A speed-sensitive detent system for a variable effort power-assisted steering gear. A detent support portion (36,38) on an output member (24) of the steering gear has a plurality of internally-threaded radial insert bores (112a-d) therein. A detent insert (114) is threaded into each insert bore (112a-d) and includes a detent bore (116), the centreline of which is offset from the centreline of the corresponding detent insert (114). A detent ball (122) is received in each detent bore (116) and is biased by a servo-fluid pressure into a detent groove (100a-d) in an input member (64) of the steering gear angularly aligned with the insert bore (112a-d). After a rotary valve (84) of the steering gear is balanced during assembly of the steering gear, the detent inserts (114) are rotated in their insert bores (112a-d) until the centrelines of the detent bores (116) intersect the centres of the detent grooves (100a-d) so that the detent balls (122) do not upset the hydraulic balance of the rotary valve (84) when biased into the grooves (100a-d) by the servo-fluid pressure.
