摘要: The present invention refers to a system (10) and a method of operating the system (10). The system (10) contains a heat pump cycle (16), a turbine cycle (17), a medium storage cycle (11) and a water storage cycle (37). By means of the heat pump cycle (16), heat of a working fluid can be transferred to a thermal medium (M) for storing thermal energy. By means of the turbine cycle (17), heat of the thermal medium (M) can be transferred to a working fluid (F). In so doing electric energy can be converted into thermal energy or transferred from thermal energy into electric energy by operating either the heat pump cycle (16) or the turbine cycle (17). The thermal coupling between the water storage cycle (37) and the heat pump cycle (16) is provided by means of a water-to-fluid heat exchanger (36) and the thermal coupling between the water storage cycle (37) and the turbine cycle (17) is provided by means of a fluid-to-water heat exchanger (49). The water storage cycle (37) additionally contains an air-cooled water cooling unit (50) that can be operated independent from the water-to-fluid heat exchanger (36).
