The cable break-away device provides overload protection to the rescue hoist by disconnecting the cable (16) from the cable drum (18) when the loads transmitted through cable become excessive. The cable break-away device is configured to fracture, releasing the cable (16) from the cable drum (18), when the loads experienced by the cable break-away device exceed a predetermined failure set point. As such, the cable break-away device forms a mechanical fuse connecting the cable to the cable drum.

A load pin (34) extends through the mounting portion and into a static structure of the rescue hoist to secure the drive train to the rescue hoist. The load pin is configured to sense the strain generated when the drive train imparts torque to the cable drum (24) to rotate the cable drum. The sensed strain is communicated to a computer (36) configured to calculate a torque generated by the drive train based on the sensed strain and further configured to calculate the load on the cable based on the sensed strain.

    摘要: A level wind mechanism (28) includes a first screw (38a) and a second screw (38b) extending through a block (40). A shoe (48) is disposed within the block (40) between the first screw (38a) and the second screw (38b). The shoe (48) includes a first follower for engaging with and being driven by a thread of the first screw (38a) and a second follower for engaging with and being driven by a thread of the second screw (38b). Each thread includes cams at the terminal ends of the thread for causing the shoe to disengage from that thread and to shift to engaging the other thread. In this way, the first screw (38a) and the second screw (38b) cause the shoe (48), and thus the block (40), to translate relative to the first screw (38a) and the second screw (38b).
