The invention relates to a switch or distribution box for electrical installations, particularly intended for domestic electrical installations. The switch box is designed as a modular system which is built up of at least two basic module elements. That is, an input element (2) which can be installed separately and having a box-shaped casing which houses a current limiting switch, for the connection of the main power supply line, and an output element (3) which can be installed separately and which accommodates electrical contact and terminal elements for the connection of outlet lines to electrical installations. Said basic module elments being provided with facilities for detachably connecting separate connecting elements (80) for the execution of predetermined switching functions in case of earth fault currents and/or overload currents. Also connecting elements (80), for instance comprising a bell-ringing transformer or a time switch are provided. Provision is made to prevent undesired connections between said basic module elements (2, 3).

In the other position the at least one arm (2) and leaf spring (6) assume a position which is deflected relative to the one position. For taking and locking the at least one pair of contacts into the one and/or the other position operating and locking means (22, 23, 40, 46) are provided.
