An automatic docking system for an injection molding machine having a mold. The docking system includes a moldset with a core plate, a guide on each side of the core plate and moldset guides on a face of the mold. The moldset guides cooperate with the core plate guides to load the moldset into the machine. A water manifold is mounted in the mold and a plurality of water connections extend from the manifold toward a moldset to be mounted in the machine. An air channel is provided in each moldset guide. A core plate separation block is attached to a top end of each core plate guide. Air channels extend through the core plate and the core plate separation blocks. Each separation block includes an air opening for engaging an air opening on a moldset guide when the moldset is loaded into the machine. The core plate guides and moldset guides guide the moldset into the machine and guide water connections in the moldset into sealing connection with the water connections in the manifold and the air openings on the separation block into sealing connection with the air openings on the moldset guides when the moldset is fully installed in the machine.

A guiding system for guiding a moldset onto a molding machine. The guiding system includes guide grooves on each side of a core plate of the moldset and guide slots on a face of the machine. A slightly raised surface is provided in a top portion of the guide slots and a wedge shaped portion is provided at a base of the guide slots. The moldset is inserted into the machine by guiding the grooves into the guide slots. The slightly raised portion initially moves the core plate away from the face and the wedge shaped portion forces the core plate into firm contact with the face when the moldset is substantially loaded into the machine. The face may be a face of a movable platen or a face of a hot runner.

The driving means for the slide including a first and a second transmission attached to the ends thereof. The transmissions operate on the same basic principle wherein at least one belt contained therein is configured along a path defined by a plurality of guides, the path including a plurality of segments defined between the guides, and the at least one belt being operable along the path between two positions, wherein the slide is attached to various suitably arranged path segments and is thereby driven between the inboard and the outboard positions respectively.

The present invention is a multiple-level stack mold for balancing the injection of molten plastic from an injection molding machine to a plurality of cavities, at least one cavity on each level of the multiple-level stack mold, for producing plastic parts facing in the same direction. Cavity plates are assembled in the multiple-level stack mold all facing in a first direction, and either core plates or plates having inserts thereon are assembled in the multiple-level stack mold all facing in a second direction. The clamping mechanism simultaneously moves the cavity plates and the core plates into engagement. Molten plastic is then evenly and simultaneously injected and distributed through a plurality of channels and passages, such that the flow of molten plastic is balanced throughout the system. Thereafter, the cavity plates and the core plates are simultaneously separated, thereby allowing removal of the resulting plastic parts, which are all facing in the same direction.

Each arm of the pair of arms is shaped to extend around a periphery portion of a mold opening to enable full access to the core and cavity plates.

A three level stack mold machine comprising a machine frame, a fixed platen mounted on the frame, guide rails mounted on the frame, a movable platen mounted on the guide rails and two carriages mounted on the guide rails between the fixed platen and the movable platen. A hot runner plate is mounted on the fixed platen and water manifolds are mounted on each carriage assembly. Each manifold has water connectors extending upwardly therefrom. A hot runner plate is mounted on each manifold and connected to a first group of the water connectors. A core plate is mounted on the movable platen and connected to water connectors extending upwardly from a water manifold attached to the movable platen. Core plates are mounted on the hot runner plates on the carriage assemblies. The core plates have water connectors on a bottom surface thereof connected to a second group of the water connectors. Cavity plates are mounted on the hot runner plates and connected to hot runner nozzles extending out of the hot runner plates. The cavity plates are orientated in a uniform direction. Air connectors are provided at a top surface of the core plates and electrical connectors at a top surface of the hot runners.

An injection molding apparatus and method provides a mold injection nozzle (32) slidably mounted in a bore (28, 30) extending through a first mold half (16) and, optionally, a back plate. The mold nozzle (32) has a tip portion (50) providing a tip surface. In a second mold half (14), there is a corresponding, aligned bore, in which is located a plug (90). The plug (90) can be displaced by a plunger (88) but is separate from the plunger (88). In use, the plug (90) can be used to control the width of a gate between the plug (90) and the tip surface through which resin flows into the cavity. After molding, the plug (90) is displaced from its bore (72) into the bore (30) in the other mold half (16), both to close off the tip portion and to displace the plug (90) and tip portion away from the mold cavity (18). The mold is then opened with the plug (90) and the mold injection nozzle (32) being retained in the first mold half (16).
