According to a known method for producing a cylindrical glass body by a vertical drawing process, a glass slug is softened in a heating zone and is drawn in the form of a strand of glass by means of an extractor at a controlled drawing speed. Said extractor comprises a first extracting unit with rolling bodies that roll off on the strand of glass and that are distributed across its periphery. Said rolling bodies are composed of a reference rolling body and at least one auxiliary rolling body. The drawing speed is controlled via the speed of the reference rolling body. The aim of the invention is to reduce damages to the surface of the strand of glass caused by drawing and prevent deformations due to bends of the strand of glass. According to the invention, a value is determined for the torque of the reference rolling body (3) depending on the weight of the drawn off strand of glass (5), said value being taken as a desired torque for adjusting the torque of the at least one auxiliary rolling body (4; 7; 8).

A resistance furnace known per se comprises a tubular heating element (2) with a vertical longitudinal axis (3), said element having a lateral surface that is delimited by an upper and lower side and surrounding a furnace chamber. The element is connected by means of at least two electric connections, the latter enabling a heating current to be introduced at current supply points into the heating element. The aim of the invention is to develop this known furnace to obtain an electric resistance furnace, in particular a high-performance resistance furnace, which is characterised by low production and maintenance costs, in addition to high operational reliability and permits an axially and radially homogeneous temperature profile to be set inside the furnace. To achieve this, the current connections have an upper annular collar (7), located in the vicinity of the upper side (11) and a lower annular collar (8), located in the vicinity of the lower side (12).
