摘要： Example embodiments relate to a computer-implemented method for controlling the firing of neurons (232, 233, 234) within a neuron layer (231) of a spiking neural network (230). The method comprising, by a handshake controller (220) associated with the neuron layer, receiving (221) a request (251) for firing the neurons and, in response, generating (222) a tick signal (250). The method further comprising, by the respective neurons, updating (212) a neuron state when receiving a neuron input (241, 242, 243); and upon receiving the tick signal, by the respective neurons, firing (215) the respective neurons that fulfil a firing condition based on the neuron state.
