The liquid crystal composition has the nematic phase and contains a compound having a difluoromethyleneoxy group and a trifluoromethyl group and having large dielectric anisotropy as a first component, and a specific compound having small dielectric anisotropy as a second component. The liquid crystal display device contains the composition.
