摘要: Apparatus for removing and transporting ophthalmic lens mold sections from a mold, and generally comprising first, second, and third assemblies. The first assembly removes the lens mold sections from the mold and transports the lens mold sections to a first location, the second assembly receives the lens mold sections from the first assembly and transports the lens mold sections to a second location, and the third assembly receives the lens mold sections from the second assembly and transports the lens mold sections to a third location. Preferably, the first assembly includes a hand to receive the lens mold sections from the mold and to releasably hold the lens mold sections, and a support subassembly connected to the hand to support the hand and to move the hand between the mold and the first location. The second assembly preferably includes a support frame, a platform to receive the lens mold sections from the first assembly and supported by the support frame for movement between the first and second locations, and moving means for moving the platform along the support frame and between these first and second locations. The preferred design of the third assembly includes a transport subassembly and a support column. The transport subassembly receives the lens mold sections from the second assembly, releasably holds those lens mold sections, and carries the lens mold sections to the third location; and the support column supports the transport subassembly for movement between the second and third locations.

摘要: An automated demolding apparatus for mechanically separating contact lens mold portions of a mold assembly. The mold assembly includes a first front mold portion having a central mold section with a surrounding flange, and a corresponding second back mold portion also having a central mold section with a surrounding flange, with a molded contact lens being formed between the front and back mold portions. The demolding apparatus includes restraining fingers positioned between and on opposite sides of the spaced flanges of the first and second mold portions and against the flange of the first mold portion. A separating fixture includes separating fingers positioned between and on opposite sides of the spaced flanges of the first and second mold portions and against the flange of the second mold portion. Before demolding, the second mold portion is irradiated by a laser beam, which is absorbed thereby to cause a substantial temperature gradient between the second mold portion and the contact lens being demolded. The temperature gradient causes a differential expansion and shifting of the surface of the heated second mold portion relative to the surface of the lens to lessen the adhesion therebetween to assist in separation of the mold portions, while leaving the lens in the first mold portion. During demolding, the separating fixture is subjected to a substantially vertical prying motion relative to the restraining fingers to separate the second mold portion from the first mold portion.
