The apparatus comprises a pillow block housing (28) which is operatively coupled to a slip plate (10) mounting the workpiece (12) by an oil film on the housing surface (58), while carriage blocks (34) are fixed to the workpiece and the bearing shaft (32). The housing (28) is supported on flexible bolts (50) permitting two degrees of freedom in the bearing apparatus.
