摘要: A distinctive technique for forming an elasticized article includes the steps of providing first (22) and second webs (24) of elasticized side panel material. The side panel material is constructed to be elastically stretchable at least along an appointed lateral cross direction. At least one first fastener (112) is attached to the first web (22) of side panel material, and at least one second fastener (113) is attached to the second web (24) of side panel material. A web of bridge material (32) is provided with first and second side edge regions thereof. The first web (22) of side panel material is attached to the first side edge region of the web of bridge material (32), and the second web (24) of side panel material is attached to the second side edge region of the web of bridge material (32). The second web of side panel (24) material is arranged to provide a cross-directional alignment between at least one corresponding, laterally opposed pair of the first (112) and second fasteners (112). The web of bridge material (32) and the first (22) and second webs (24) of side panel material are divided to provide at least one composite bridge assembly (38) having a bridge member (40) interconnecting a laterally opposed pair of first and second side panel members. The composite bridge assembly (38) is secured to an appointed article web with the first and second side panels of the laterally opposed pair of side panel members located at opposite side regions of the article web.

摘要: A distinctive method and apparatus provide a technique for forming a fastener system. Generally stated, the apparatus includes a supply mechanism for providing along a machine-direction a first web (24) of material having a medial portion thereof. A first assembly mechanism (30) attaches a second web of material to the medial region of the first web (24) along the machine direction to provide a web laminate, and a first parting section and a second laminate section. Each laminate section includes a portion of the first web (24) and a portion of the second web (32), and each laminate section has an edge region thereof. A directing mechanism (52) spaces apart the first and second laminate sections, and a delivery mechanism locates a securement web (56) of fastening material between the first and second laminate sections. The securement web (56) has a first side region and a second side region thereof. A second assembly mechanism (62) affixes the edge region of the first laminate section to the first side region of the securement web (56), and affixes the edge region of the second laminate section to the second side region of the securement web (56) to thereby form a composite base web (64) which has a medial portion (66) thereof. A second parting mechanism (68) divides the composite web (64) along its medial portion to form at least a first composite securement web (70) and a second composite securement web (72).

The first web (22) of side panel material is attached to the first side edge region of the web of bridge material (32), and the second web (24) of side panel material is attached to the second side edge region of the web of bridge material (32). The second web of side panel (24) material is arranged to provide a cross-directional alignment between at least one corresponding, laterally opposed pair of the first (112) and second fasteners (112). The web of bridge material (32) and the first (22) and second webs (24) of side panel material are divided to provide at least one composite bridge assembly (38) having a bridge member (40) interconnecting a laterally opposed pair of first and second side panel members. The composite bridge assembly (38) is secured to an appointed article web with the first and second side panels of the laterally opposed pair of side panel members located at opposite side regions of the article web.
