摘要: An auxiliary damper (12) is provided for a passenger cab (13) on heavy equipment or the like, the damper (12) being contained within the confines of the primary suspension system (11) and being secured to a first one of a supported element and a support to provide surface effect damping as needed to damp high-amplitude, low-frequency vibration in the region of the resonant frequency of the primary suspension (11). An elastomeric sleeve (16) is bonded to a rigid sleeve member (14) which surrounds the securement bolt (17) for the primary mount. A spool member (18) with internal protrusions (26) engagingly surrounds the elastomeric sleeve (16). The spool (18) has upper and lower flanges (22, 24) which overlie and underlie, respectively, in non-engaged relationship, the second of a supported element and a support. When there is low-amplitude, high frequency motion of the support, this non-engaged relationship allows the supported element to be isolated from such motion. When the amplitude of the vibration becomes large enough as, for example, near resonance, the spool (18) of the auxiliary damper (12) engages its supported element or support and dissipates the vibrational energy as heat to effectively damp the large amplitude motion and maintain a comfortable ride.

摘要: A hybrid elastomer-and-metal spring isolator (20) with a low natural frequency. A fully bonded sandwich mount (22) has cored pockets (28) that receive metal coil springs (30). Extruded cavities (32) on the lower (26L) and upper (26U) plates of the sandwich mount (22) extend into the pockets (28) within the interior of the coiled springs (30) and receive a tension bolt (40) and double lock-nut assembly (42) to secure the separate lower cavities to the isolator. A preload retention nut (48) engages a protruding portion of the tension bolt (40) and preloads the coil springs (30) to an amount equal to their static load. This hybrid isolator (20) has particular application in mounting large (30 ton) diesel engines. The isolator assembly provides a natural frequency that is between 3 and 5 Hz, outside the normal idling frequencies of the engine so as to avoid resonance.

摘要: Three embodiments of a shock-isolating caster (10). A surface-effect damper engages at least one of a wheel element (20) and an intermediate structural member to dampen vibration and shock loads which would otherwise be transmitted from the wheel element (20) through the intermediate structure and mounting member (12) to the equipment supporting cart. A first embodiment positions the damper between an outer wheel rim (25) and an inner wheel hub (24). Second and third embodiments mount the wheel on a pivotable arm and dampen the movement of the arm. Capability to adjust damping levels is provided.

摘要: An isolator is used in a hand-held vibrating device (10) for providing optimum vibration isolation by utilizing buckling elastomer sections (44A) which operate in a buckled mode during normal use. The buckled elastomer sections (44A) significantly reduce the spring rate within an operating load range thus substantially reducing the vibration transmitted to the user. Six embodiments are shown which utilize buckling sections to enhance vibration isolation along an axial direction of vibration. A first embodiment includes a frusto-conical section (20A). A first embodiment of a front grip isolator (30A) that is used with the buckling isolator (20A) for reducing the radial mechanical vibration transmitted to the front hand of the user, also utilizing buckling sections, is also taught.
