    摘要: An integrated helmet illumination system and process for forming thereof is described. The system comprises a protective helmet (102), a substrate affixed to the helmet, and an electroluminescent lamp (106) positioned between the substrate (104) and the protective helmet. The substrate is configured to be affixed to an exterior surface of the helmet to define a helmet outer shell. Also, the substrate is fabricated with a light transmissive viewing area through which the illumination of the electroluminescent lamp is viewed. Additionally, the substrate can be formed out of the transparent light reflective material to reflect light incident upon the helmet outer shell, the integrated helmet illumination system is formed by the following process steps: a substrate is formed to have a light transmissive viewing area; then, an electroluminescent lamp is affixed to a surface of the substrate over the light transmissive viewing area; then an electroluminescent lamp is affixed to a surface of the substrate over the light transmissive area; the substrate and electroluminescent lamp affixed thereto are then vacuum molded or formed, forming the substrate into the helmet outer shell; the helmet outer shell with electroluminescent lamp thereon is then attached to an exterior surface of a protective helmet such that the lamp is positioned between the outer shell and the protective helmet.

    摘要: Processes for the integration of illuminated displays with articles of fabric or textiles are described. In one aspect, a rear electrode (106) of an electroluminescent panel (102) is formed directly onto a fabric section substrate (104) by the following process, a formed image is placed over a fabric section to define an area for display and a catalyst is applied to such display area; the fabric section display area with catalyst thereon is immersed in an electroless plating bath and subsequently removed, allowing a chemical reduction to occur in the aqueous solution; such fabric section is immersed in an electrode bath to form an electrode layer integrated with the fabric section and patterned in the associated image. In another aspect, a process is used to form an insulative layer for encapsulating the fabric section substrate having a rear electrode. In still another aspect, process is used to form the layers of an electroluminescent panel integral with a substrate. Optionally, the fabric section can be adhered to a substantially rigid substrate while the EL panel component layers are applied to aid in accurate placement of such layers.

    摘要: Integrated illumination systems employing illumination devices formed onto substrates are described. According to one embodiment, the display system combines an electroluminescent lamp (302), a photocell (304), a power supply (306) receiving energy from the photocell (304) and discharging electrical energy to the EL lamp (302), and optionally, a control switch to mange the intervals of electrical energy discharge to the EL lamp (302) for illumination; the components of the display system combining to the provide illumination for an object (308). In another embodiment, a photocell (208), power supply (204) and light emitting device (206) are each formed onto a single substrate (202) to form a totally self-contained, self-powered illuminating device (200). In yet another embodiment, an electroluminescent lamp (604) is provided to form an illuminated decal (600). The EL lamp (604) may be configured to have a front illumination surface (610) and a back mounting surface (608), with a decal backing (606) attached to the back mounting surface (608). The decal backing (606) can be affixed to a various objects (602) to provide an illumination source theron. Alternatively, a magnetic material may be affixed to the back mounting surface (608) of the EL lamp (604) to replace the decal backing (606).
