摘要: A nuclear shelter, particularly for construction by assembly from a kit of parts, has a load-bearing skeleton structure (13), e.g. of metal tubes (15,16,17) clamped together, which are capable of limited deformation under the pressure wave from blast. This structure is covered by mesh (18) supporting resilient material (14) which in turn is covered by an impermeable membrane (12), e.g. of butyl rubber, surrounding the whole structure. This membrane which forms a gas-tight and water-tight enclosure is covered with earth, sand or the like to give radiation protection.

摘要: An underwater weapon system comprises a container 11 (Figure 1) for a self-propelled weapon with target homing means, the container including pumps 16, 17 having inlets 18, 19 on the underside of the container to pump silt, gravel etc. from underneath the container whereby the container can be buried or partially buried in the sea bed. Reverse operation of the pumps raises the container which is opened automatically, e.g. with a radio control system 22 to release the weapon when the weapon is to be used.

摘要: The disclosure relates to an enclosure (10) for installation in the seabed comprising an elongate container (13) for holding a payload (14). The enclosure has inner (13a) and outer (12a) concentric annular passageways extending lengthwise of the container and an impeller (20) at the lower end of the container for drawing water downwardly through the inner passageway to form a slurry with the material of the seabed upwardly through the outer passageway to discharge the slurry formed at the lower end of the container at the upper end of the container into the surrounding water. The impeller is mounted on a motorized drive (22) at the centre of the lower end of the enclosure and has blades (23) extending across the inner and outer passageways. The blades of the impeller have a first, inner portions (24) pitched to draw water down the inner of the passageways to the lower end of the container and second outer portions (27) pitched to discharge slurry up the outer of the passageways to exit at outlets (19) towards the top of the enclosure.
