A refrigeration cycle apparatus uses carbon dioxide as refrigerant and has a compressor (1), an outdoor heat exchanger (3), an expander (6), an indoor heat exchanger (8) and an auxiliary compressor (10). The auxiliary compressor (10) is driven by power recover by the expander (6). When refrigerant flows using the indoor heat exchanger (8) as an evaporator, a discharge side of the auxiliary compressor (10) becomes a suction side of the compressor (1), and when refrigerant flows using the indoor heat exchanger (8) as a gas cooler, a discharge side of the compressor (1) becomes a suction side of the auxiliary compressor (10).

The vane groove is provided with a back pressure chamber which pushes the vane against the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder, and the refrigerant in the supercritical state is introduced into the back pressure chamber.
