The light emitted from an optical source of the charge removing device is selected from the range between the wavelengths which correspond to half of the maximum absorbance in a light absorbance characteristic of the photosensitive film (12). Since carrier generation does not occur by the light emitted by the charge removing device, the charging ability and the charge retaining ability of the photosensitive film are improved, and the image quality is significantly improved.

An arrangement which makes good development possible, in a developing device (14) of a contact development type using non-magnetic monocomponent toner and using a developing roller (25), by keeping low the driving torque produced by the developing roller (25). To achieve this the coefficient of surface dynamic friction µ of the developing roller 25 against the surface of a photosensitive drum 11 is arranged to satisfy the relationship 0.2 ≦ µ ≦ 2.5. Also, the apparent density (AD) of toner to be used satisfies the relationship 0.25 (g/cc) ≦ AD ≦ 0.55 (g/cc). As a result, there are portions on which no toner adheres at both ends of the developing roller (25). Even when the portions are brought into contact with the photosensitive drum 11, friction in the contact portion is not too large, and driving torque produced by the developing roller (25) may be low. Further, a toner thin layer formed on the developing roller (25) reaches uniformity, whereby good development is achieved.

A process unit including a drum unit having a photoconductor drum, a developing device having a development housing accommodating a developer, and a developing roller disposed in the development housing, and a support shaft for supporting the developing device so as to be pivotable relative to the drum unit is provided. The process unit detachably mounted in a printer includes a spring interposed between the developing device and the drum unit to impart to the developing device a turning moment about the support shaft so that the developing roller is urged toward the photoconductor drum. The developing device has an input gear for transmitting a drive force to the developing roller, while the printer has an output gear for driving the input gear. The direction of the drive pressure angle of the output gear to the input gear, or a direction opposite to this direction is headed for the support shaft.
