    摘要: The storage medium 30 for an optical data storage system is a contiguous laminate formed by a plurality of layers 18, 19, 20 of photochemical hole burning material, such layers individually exhibiting inhomogenous absorption spectrum characteristics spanning different, successive wavelength ranges. This arrangement greatly expands the cumulative or overall absorption band of the storage medium available for laser hole burning to implement data bit writing, and thus increases the storage density at each memory site. The absorption spectrum characteristics of the layers can be varied by including coloring dyes in the layers.

    摘要: An optical information recording and reproduction system uses an objective lens (5) to focus a light beam onto the information-carrying medium (6). To ensure the beam is focused correctly part of the reflected beam is transmitted to an optical component (10) which has a reflecting surface (11) with reflectivity or transmissivity which varies continuously with respect to the angle of incidence. A photo-detector (9) senses the distribution of intensity of the beam reflected by the surface (11).
