A rear wheel braking force control apparatus includes a pressure sensor (38) for detecting master cylinder pressure, control valve means (18₁,18₂,26,27) capable of variably setting a split point pressure at which braking force allocation characteristics of front and rear wheels vary, front and rear wheel antilock brake systems (14,17,20,22) for preventing the front and rear wheels from locking, and a controller (37) for correcting the setting of the split point pressure when the rear wheel antilock brake system is operated, and for operating said control valve means (18₁,18₂,26,27) when the master cylinder pressure detected by a pressure sensor (38) is more than the set split point pressure.

A power steering apparatus for a vehicle includes a steering mechanism (1) having a torsion bar (9), a rotary valve (16) connected to an oil pump (33) and disposed between an input shaft (11) and an output shaft (5a), a valve driving mechanism having a pressed portion (42) projected on one of the input and output shafts and a pressing piece (44a, 44b) on the other for pressing the pressed portion. A target assist force is set for an assist force obtained by rotating the rotary valve (16) in the torsion direction of the torsion bar (9) and an assist force obtained by rotating the rotary valve in the reverse direction to the torsion direction. A pressing piece driving mechanism drives the pressing piece (44a, 44b) so that the preset assist force is obtained. The pressure itself of the rotary valve (16) is controlled to the operation angle of the rotary valve, whereby the steering force of the steering wheel (13) is varied over a wide range of steering conditions with a reduced burden to the driver.

When a master cylinder pressure detected by means of a pressure sensor (74) attains a level not lower than a target pressure (P OK ), normally-open on-off valves (62, 63) for by-passing proportioning control valves (57₁, 57₂) are opened. If the slip factor of rear wheels, calculated by means of a slip factor calculation section (121), is not lower than a predetermined value, the on-off valves (64, 66) are opened to allow the rear wheel cylinder pressure to escape to accumulators (65, 67). Thus, if there is enough room for the increase of the braking force on the rear wheels, the rear wheel braking force can be increased to reduce the share of the front wheel braking force, depending on braking conditions, such as the road surface conditions, vehicle running conditions, etc., and besides, the rear wheels can be prevented from being locked.

A flow control valve includes a cylinder (55) in which an inflow port (52), an outflow port (53) and a return port (54) are formed. A spiral choke (60) is formed between the inflow and outflow ports. A working oil introduced from the inflow port into the cylinder flows out from the outflow port through the spiral choke. An actuating valve (56) in the cylinder so as to open and close the return port in accordance with a difference in pressure between the inflow and outflow port sides of the spiral choke. When the pressure difference exceeds a predetermined value, the actuating valve opens the return port so that a part of the working oil introduced into the cylinder is returned to the inflow side of the flow control valve.

A rear wheel braking force control apparatus of a vehicle includes a pressure sensor (74) for detecting master cylinder pressure, right and left proportioning valves (PCV 57₁ and 57₂) individually disposed in passages for transmitting master cylinder pressure to right and left wheel cylinders of the rear wheels for controlling to decrease changes in wheel cylinder pressure relative to changes in master cylinder pressure, right and left PCV bypass valves (62) and (63) for individually bypassing the proportioning valves, and a controller (71) which, when the vehicle is determined by a steering angle sensor (77) or the like to be turning, closes the PCV bypass valve at the outer wheel side when the master cylinder pressure is higher than the pressure of the PCV bypass valve at the inner wheel side.
