摘要: A sparkplug includes: an insulator (10) with an axial hole (12) extending along an axial line O; a metal shell (50) covering the insulator (10); and a shelf part (57) inside the metal shell (50). The insulator (10) includes a second column part (15) formed in the front end side of a tapering part (14). When a volume surrounded by a first plane PS1 that passes through the front end (57a) of the shelf part (57) of the metal shell (50) and is orthogonal to the axial line O, a curved surface CS extending from an outer circumference of the second column part (15), and an outer circumference surface of the insulator (10) is defined as A, and a volume surrounded by the first plane PS1, the curved surface CS, a second plane PS2 that passes through the front end (50a) of the metal shell (50) and is orthogonal to the axial line O, and the axial hole (12) of the insulator (10) is defined as B, a relational expression 0.9 ≤ A/B ≤ 2.4 is satisfied.

摘要: A manufacturing method for an ignition plug is provided. The method includes: preparing an insulator having a cavity provided at a leading end portion thereof by disposing a leading end of the center electrode more inwards than a leading end of the insulator; building the insulator in an interior of the metal shell such that the leading end of the insulator is situated closer to a rear end side than the leading end of the metal shell; removing at least part of a leading end portion of the metal shell which projects from a leading end face of the insulator; and disposing the ground electrode at the leading end portion of the metal shell and welding the ground electrode and the metal shell together after the removal step.

摘要: A plasma jet ignition plug is provided which is capable of restraining occurrence of channeling while reducing removal of energy of plasma through a ground electrode at the time of emission of plasma. The plasma jet ignition plug includes a ground electrode (201) which projects inwardly from a front end face (57) of a metallic shell (50) toward an opening end (14) of a cavity (60) which is open at a front end face (16) of an insulator (10). A projecting distal end (203) which forms a spark discharge gap between the distal end (203) and a center electrode (20) within a cavity (60) is located inwardly, with respect to a diametral direction P orthogonal to an axis O, of a position which is located 0.5 mm radially outward from the opening end (14) of the cavity (60).

摘要: A plasma-jet spark plug includes a metal shell, an electrical insulator retained in the metal shell, a center electrode held in an axial hole of the electrical insulator to define a cavity by a front end face of the center electrode and an inner circumferential surface of the insulator axial hole and a ground electrode arranged on a front end of the electrical insulator. The ground electrode has an opening defining portion defining an opening for communication between the cavity and the outside of the spark plug. The opening defining portion is located radially inside of or in contact with a first imaginary circular conical surface where the first imaginary circular conical surface has an axis coinciding with an axis of the spark plug and a vertex angle of 120° opening toward a front end of the spark plug and passing through a front edge of the insulator axial hole.
