We have found that to improve the heat retention by diapers and other absorbents, a heat retention indicator 1 of a water-absorbing resin which is defined in the present invention needs be 3.0oC/min or less and also that particular requirements need be met to satisfy this condition. If the requirements are met, a water-absorbing resin, absorbent, and absorbent article can be provided which has a heat retention indicator 1 of 0 to 3.0oC/min or less and which exhibits excellent heat retention and absorption.

The present invention provides a particulate water absorbing agent for absorbent cores which is excellent in powder conveying property, and achieves sufficient absorption performances for use in absorbent cores in particulate water absorbing agents including a water absorbing resin as a principal component, and which further is suitable for practical applications. In the present invention, characteristics that had not been known conventionally at all, i.e., "permeability potential under pressure (PPUP)" and "frictional charge being a positive charge" of the particulate water absorbing agent are regulated at a time, and furthermore, regulation of the "moisture content of 2 to 10% by weight" is perfected. Also, the particulate water absorbing agent including (A) a water-swelling crosslinked polymer having a constitutional unit derived from an unsaturated monomer containing an acid group and/or a salt thereof; and (B) water fulfills certain requirements.

Hydrophilic polymer is modified with a gaseous modifier or a powdered modifier made from a liquid modifier. To powder a liquid modifier, the liquid modifier is mixed with a water-insoluble compound, or the liquid modifier is cooled below its melting point to solidify it. With these methods it is possible to modify a hydrophilic polymer uniformly. When a gaseous modifier is used, the hydrophilic polymer and the modifier can be made to react efficiently and safely regardless of the size and shape of the hydrophilic polymer. When a hydrophilic polymer is modified with a powdered modifier, it is possible to uniformly mix a liquid modifier, virtually in a solid state, with a hydrophilic polymer and to easily control the timing of the modification.

A water-absorbent composition includes: a specific plant extract; a water-absorbent resin whose surface portion and/or periphery thereof is treated; and/or a water-absorbent resin having a specific property. Specifically, it is preferable to use a water-absorbent resin having three characteristics: (1) a specific neutralization rate, (2) a specific particle diameter, and (3) a specific plant extract. The water-absorbent composition has a superior deodorant performance and an absorbent characteristic when the water-absorbent composition is used (provided) in an absorbing product such as a paper diaper, thereby providing a superior deodorant performance and a superior absorbent characteristic to the foregoing absorbing product.
