The aim of the present invention is to provide a phosphate treated zinc coated steel sheet with excellent workability. A steel sheet coated with a zinc based alloy has a phosphate treated coating on the surface thereof. The phosphate treated coating comprises mainly granulated crystals, specifically, crystals in which the average ratio of the major axis to the minor axis is not less than 1.00 and not more than 2.90. Moreover, the method for producing the phosphate treated coating uses a phosphate treatment solution in which the amount of Mg ions is ≧ 6 g/l and the amount of Zn ions is ≧ 0.5 g/l, or a phosphate treatment solution in which the amount of Mg ions is ≧ 10 g/l, the amount of Zn ions is 0 ≦ and 2 , and has excellent weldability as the coating amount is controlled to 0.5 to 3.0 g/m 2 .

A zinc-based metal plated steel sheet treated with a phosphate which comprises a zinc-based metal plated steel sheet and, on the surface thereof, a film formed by treating the surface with a phosphate, characterized in that the film comprises granular crystals as its main constituent and, preferably, the crystals have an average ratio of a long axis to a short axis of 1.00 to 2.90; and a method for producing the plated steel sheet, characterized as comprising subjecting a zinc-based metal plated steel sheet to a phosphate treatment using a phosphate treatment solution having an Mg ion content of 6 g/l or more and a Zn ion content of 0.5 g/l or more, or a solution having an Mg ion content of 10 mg/m or more, a Zn ion content less than 0.5 g/l and a phosphoric ion content of 40g/l or more. The zinc-based metal plated steel sheet is advantageous in that it exhibits excellent formability. Further, a zinc-based metal plated steel sheet having also excellent corrosion resistance is provided by using a phosphate treatment solution having a content of Mg ion of 10 g/l or more, and that having also excellent weldability is provided by controlling an amount of the film to 0.5 to 3.0 g/m .

A zinc-based metal plated steel sheet coated with a composite containing an organic material, characterized in that it comprises a steel sheet and, formed thereon sequentially in the following order, a zinc based metal plating film, a zinc phosphate film containing Mg, and an organic film, wherein the zinc phosphate film has a Mg/P (wt ratio) of 0.15 or more and contains Mg in an amount of 20 mg/m2 or more. It is preferred that the zinc phosphate film contains one or more of Ni, Mn, Co, Fe, Cu, Al and Ca, and that the organic film is a composite film prepared from of an organic resin and one or more of powders and colloids of SiO¿2?, Al2O3, MgO, Fe2O3, Fe3O4, ZrO2, TiO2 and SnO2.
