摘要: A 1.55-micron-zone dispersion shift optical fiber low in loss and gentle in dispersion slope. A core area a is formed by adding high-concentration GeO2. A core area b consists of pure SiO2 glass. Many holes (4) extending in a longitudinal direction of the optical fiber are formed in a clad section (3) disposed around core areas. The positions of holes (4) in the clad section (3) are not at random, and they form a honeycomb shape where a regular hexagon having a side length of Lambda is used as a basic lattice. At the center of core areas (1, 2), an area (3) higher in refractive index than the area surrounding the core areas (1, 2) is provided, and the refractive index distributions of the core areas (1, 2) are provided such that the group velocity dispersion at an operation wavelength of this area (3) is a normal dispersion.

摘要: A 1.55 µm band dispersion shifted optical fiber is provided which has a low loss and low dispersion slope. A core region "a" is heavily doped with GeO 2 . A core region "b" is composed of pure SiO 2 glass. A cladding section 3 is arranged around the core region. The cladding section 3 has a lot of holes 4 extending in the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber. The holes 4 of the cladding section 3 are not located at random, but have a honeycomb structure composed of regular hexagons which have a side length of A, and serve as a primitive lattice. The center of the core region 1 and 2 has a region 3 having a refractive index higher than that of the periphery of the core section 1 and 2. The core region 1 and 2 has the refractive index distribution in which the group velocity dispersion at the operation wavelength of the region 3 becomes the normal dispersion.
