Provided is a PSA sheet with low toluene and total volatile organic compound (TVOC) emissions as well as low unpleasant odor level felt by users. The PSA sheet comprises a PSA layer formed of a PSA composition comprising an acrylic polymer emulsion and a tackifier resin emulsion; the toluene and TVOC emissions are at most 20 µg and at most 150 µg, respectively; in a sensory test, 90% of participants evaluate that the unpleasantness of odors emitted from the PSA sheet is less than that of toluene at a prescribed concentration.

The starting monomer material is preferred to further contain a silanol-forming monomer and polymerized without the silanol-forming monomer to produce a polymer having a gel fraction of 7 to 17 mass%. Provided are a double-sided PSA sheet comprising a PSA layer formed by directly applying an aqueous dispersion-type PSA composition to a non-woven fabric substrate, wherein the layer has a highly smooth surface; and a method for producing the same. In this method, an aqueous dispersion-type PSA composition is applied to at least a first side of the non-woven fabric substrate and the composition is allowed to dry to form a PSA layer. A non-woven fabric of 15 µm to 70 µm in thickness, 0.3 to 0.6 g/cm 3 in bulk density, and 0.7 sec to 2 sec in air resistance (Gurley) when measured for 8 layers the non-woven fabric substrate is used as the non-woven fabric substrate.

The composition is composed primarily of an acrylic polymer obtained by polymerizing a starting monomer material containing an alkyl (meth)acrylate as a main monomer and a silanol-forming monomer. The Mw of the polymer is 65 × 10 4 to 100 × 10 4 . The starting monomer material without the silanol-forming monomer are polymerized to produce a polymer having a gel fraction of 7 to 17 mass%. The composition gives a post-crosslink PSA having a gel fraction of 20 to 55 mass%.

This method comprises preparing an aqueous dispersion-type PSA composition and a nonwoven fabric substrate serving as a support. The method also comprises forming PSA layers which impregnate the substrate and which are obtained by drying the composition. These PSA layers impregnate the substrate so that the area of gaps observed in a vertical cross-section perpendicular to the machine direction of the substrate is about 500 µm 2 /400 µm or less.
