    摘要: Wet laminating adhesives capable of withstanding the stresses encountered during heat sealing operations are prepared from emulsion copolymers consisting essentially of 45 to 80% by weight of a vinyl ester of an alkanoic acid, 10 to 30% ethylene, 5 to 30% of dialkyl maleate, 0.5 to 2% of an N-methylol containing comonomer and 0.5 to 4% of an ethylenically unsaturated mono- or di-carboxylic acid. These specific emulsion copolymers are prepared utilizing standard emulsion polymerization procedures with hydroxyethylcellulose or polyvinyl alcohol as a protective colloid. The emulsion polymers thus produced provide superior wet laminating adhesive properties for use in substrates which are to be formed into microwavable packages or bags.

    摘要: An improved aqueous base coating for paper substrates to be vacuum metallized consists essentially of an aqueous emulsion containing a film-forming polymer prepared by emulsion copolymerizing an acrylate monomer having a Tg of -55° to -70°C (e.g., butyl or 2-ethylhexyl acrylate) with selected vinyl polymerizable monomers having aTg of about +50° to +110 °C (e.g. methyl methacrylate, isobutyl methacrylate, styrene, or vinyl toluene) to give a polymer having a theoretical Tg of above -10° to +45 °C. The polymerization is carried out in the presence of about 25-40 wt.% of a water-soluble colloid polymer having a Tg of + 14 to + 80 °C. The colloid polymer is the ammonium salt of an acid-containing polymer having a molecular weight of about 2000-10000 which consists essentially of about 10-40% acrylic and/or methacrylic acid and about 60-90% of selected vinyl polymerizable monomers other than the acid monomer (e.g. styrene, butyl (meth)acrylate, isobutyl (meth) acrylate, methyl methacrylate and/or ethylene).

    摘要: A two-part aqueous-based adhesive suitable for dry-bonding a polyether urethane foam to a rigid or semi-rigid substrate consists essentially of (a) an aqueous latex of an anionic emulsion polymer having a Tg of 0°C or below, preferably -5° to -30° C, an effective amount of a diepoxide or polyepoxide curing agent, and optionally, but preferably, an effective amount of a fugitive plasticizer. The polymer consists essentially of 10-­30% ethylene, 40 to 80% of vinyl acetate, 5-35% of a C₄-C₈-dialkyl maleate, and 4-10% of an ethylenically unsaturated acid monomer (e.g., acrylic acid). Suitable substrates include styrene board and fiberglass board.
