The invention provides, in a glass article molding method using a feeder mechanism for cutting a columnar body of extruded molten glass to let a glass gob fall under self weight from an orifice, wherein after the fallen glass gob has been moved to a predetermined position, predetermined glass produce is formed from the glass gob, a quality control method and a quality control device for glass gobs. The glass gob formed by the feeder mechanism is observed during falling by a plurality of spaced optical observing means to produce three-dimensional coordinate data on the entire surface of the glass gob. On the basis of the three-dimensional coordinate data, measurement data concerning at least one of such factors as the volume, weight, surface shape, length, thickness, falling direction attitude, and cut shape of the glass gob are produced. The measured data are compared with the quality standard data for normal glass gob, whereby the presence or absence of qualitative defects of the glass gob is determined. And, according to the kind of the qualitative defects determined, the cause-and-effect relationship concerning at least one of the operating factors in the feeder mechanism is determined.
