    A dye-sensitized solar cell comprising a photoelectrode comprising a light-transmitting and conductive material and a semiconductor layer having a sensitizing dye supported thereon, formed on the surface of the light-transmitting and conductive material, an electrolyte and a counter electrode, wherein the counter is constituted of a material comprising a substrate comprising stainless steel containing Cr: 16% by mass or more, and Mo: 0.3% by mass or more, and a catalyst thin film layer formed on the surface of the substrate, and the semiconductor layer of the photoelectrode and the catalyst thin film layer of the counter electrode face through the electrolyte. The stainless steel substrate of the counter electrode preferably has pit-shaped concave portions having an average opening size D of 5 µm or less in a proportion of an area ratio of 10% or more on the surface thereof.
