摘要： In combination with a cartridge case (10) having a tubular wall (14) and a head (16) closing one end of the wall (14), a primer (20) disposed through the head (16) and a propellant charge (13) in the case (10), a collapsible basewad (12) is disclosed which comprises a unitary body (24) between the charge (13) and the head (16). The unitary body (24) has an upwardly concave upper portion (24) opening to the propellant charge (13) and a generally cylindrical base portion (30). The upper portion (28) is deflectable. These portions (28, 30) and the tubular wall (14) define therebetween an annular cavity (42) rearward of the propellant charge (13). This cavity (42) is collapsed upon ignition of the propellant charge (13) by deflection of the upper portion (28) thereby reducing the recoil felt by the shooter without adding any parasitic weight to the projectile load. The upper portion (28) of the basewad (12) preferably has an inverted truncated hollow cone shape. An upwardly open annular channel (52) in the upper end surface (36) of the base portion (30) of the basewad (12) enhances the sealing force between the base portion (30) of the basewad (12) and the tubular wall (14) of the cartridge casing (10).

摘要： An ammunition cartridge (50) has a tube (51) extending along a central longitudinal axis from an aft end to a fore end. A metallic head (53) has a sleeve portion (61) secured to the tube along an aft section of the tube and has a centrally-apertured web portion (66) spanning the sleeve portion to form a base of the cartridge. A basewad (52) contained within the tube separately formed therefrom is located proximate the aft end of the tube. The basewad (52) has a generally cylindrical exterior surface. The basewad interior surface (72) extends from a generally forward-facing inner portion, forward and outward to a generally inward-facing fore portion (76) to define a skirt portion of the basewad. At least one projectile is carried within a fore volume of the tube. A propellant charge (96) is located aft of the projectile. Wadding (92) is located between the propellant charge (96) and the projectile. The wadding (92) includes an aft portion located at least partially concentrically within the basewad skirt portion to define a powder chamber (94) containing the propellant charge (96).

摘要： A water resistant shotshell (10) has an internal moisture seal (32, 86) to preclude moisture intrusion into the propellant charge (26). The seal is at least one flexible tapered lip (32, 86) on the plastic shot wad (12) which is compressed against the inside surface of the shotshell tube over the powder charge. The preferred embodiment is a two piece shot wad having a shot cup portion (22) and a wad portion (24). The wad portion (24) has a central disk portion (28) and a tubular rim (30) terminating in a pair of opposing flexible lips (32) which provide a dual moisture seal.
