The heating element is configured to heat the aerosol-generating substrate in the cartridge to generate an aerosol when the cartridge is received by the receptacle. The heating element is configured to heat the tobacco substrate to an extent sufficient to generate the aerosol without combusting the aerosol-generating substrate.
