Methods and systems are provided for determining a position of a subscriber station in a wireless communications system. The subscriber station receives an overhead message from the wireless communications system and obtains a parameter value. A data structure stored in memory of the subscriber station is then accessed and a seed position is set to a stored position from an entry of the data structure associated with a value matching the parameter value obtained from the received overhead message. The position of the subscriber station is then determined from a set of signals from a satellite position determination system based on the set seed position.

The subscriber station may use a data structure in its memory and map possible parameter values to corresponding positions that may serve as the seed positions. The data structure may be updated in response to an update condition.
