Abstract:
A system for enhancing functionality of a mobile device comprising: the mobile device, wherein the mobile device includes: a radio subsystem; a processor adapted to interact with the radio subsystem; a user interface; a short range communications system; and a battery adapted to power the mobile device; and an accessory adapted to communicate with the mobile device, the accessory including: at least one processor; a radio subsystem communicating with the processor; and a short range communications system adapted to communicate with the short range communications system of the mobile device, wherein the radio subsystem of the mobile device differs from the radio subsystem of the accessory.
Abstract:
A keypad suitable for use with a mobile communication or a handheld device. The keypad includes an actuator component formed from multiple materials and comprises a plurality of actuators, a sealing bead and/or a light guide. The sealing bead is formed from a flexible or compressible material such as silicone rubber. When the keypad is installed the sealing bead is compressed against the mounting surface in the device and provides a seal for the keypad against environmental agents such as moisture, dust and/or electrostatic discharges.
Abstract:
The invention provides a portable communication device and enclosure therefor where separation of its antenna (18) from the user's head is facilitated. The device comprises: a case (10); a speaker port (16); an antenna located in the bottom of the case; and a spacer located on the front of the case for resting against a cheek of a user of the device (22). When the device is held against the head of a user of the device with the spacer resting against a cheek of the user, the spacer biases the bottom of the device away from the user's head. The spacer may be located at a distance from the speaker port on the front of the case to comply with a Cellular Telephone Information Association (CTIA) test plan for Mobile Station Over the Air Performance.
Abstract:
A mobile wireless communications device may include a portable housing, a printed circuit board (PCB) carried within the portable housing, wireless transceiver circuitry carried by the PCB within the portable housing, and an antenna carried by the PCB within the portable housing and connected to the wireless transceiver circuitry. The device may further include a first pair of electrically floating, electrically conductive, spaced apart, antenna beam shaping elements adjacent the antenna and spaced apart therefrom. A second pair of electrically floating, electrically conductive, spaced apart, antenna beam shaping elements may be adjacent the antenna and spaced apart therefrom. The first pair of antenna beam shaping elements may be positioned in an offset relationship relative to the second pair of antenna beam shaping elements.
Abstract:
A key assembly for an electronic device comprises at least one key including a body having a first external contact portion and a second external contact portion. The first external contact portion is movable to thereby actuate a first switch of a pair of switches. The second external contact portion is movable to thereby actuate a second switch of the pair of switches. The body of the at least one key pivots about the first external contact portion when the second external contact portion moves to thereby actuate the second switch. The body of the at least one key also pivots about the second external contact portion when the first external contact portion moves to thereby actuate the first switch.
