摘要： An internal combustion engine has a cylinder block that has one or more cylinders, hollow-cylindrical cylinder liners that are placed in the cylinders, a piston that reciprocates in each cylinder liner and whose outer peripheral surface between the piston head and the uppermost ring groove forms a top land section, and a liner installation ring that forms in a cylinder an annular step section protruding to the inner periphery side of the cylinder liner and that is installed on either the cylinder block or the cylinder liner with the lower face of the liner installation ring facing the uppermost section of the cylinder liner. The liner installation ring is installed so as to correspond to a position that is the upper end position of the top land section when the piston has reached the top dead center, and the length of the inward protrusion of the liner installation ring from the inner periphery of each cylinder liner is set not less than 0.05 mm and not more than 0.5 mm.
