Un dispositif pour détecter les signaux de vitesse de rotation d'un appareil de commande régulant l'amenée de carburant dans un moteur à combustion interne, met en oeuvre un générateur d'impulsions (inductif) conjointement avec une technique sensorielle éprouvée. Le moment de la détection du signal de vitesse de rotation peut être commandé librement dans le cadre d'une révolution du vilebrequin et/ou de l'arbre à cames. On réduit ainsi au minimum l'intervalle de temps entre la détection du signal et l'extraction des signaux de sortie subordonnés au signal de vitesse de rotation. La rotation de phase dans le circuit régulateur s'en trouve ainsi réduite au minimum et le comportement dynamique est de ce fait notablement amélioré.

The invention relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine (1), especially an internal combustion engine pertaining to a motor vehicle, by means of a control appliance (2) for controlling/regulating the operation of the internal combustion engine (1) according to an air mass sensor signal (L_1) of a first air mass sensor (HFM_1). A first auxiliary signal (H_1), obtained from an additional sensory mechanism or from models of the internal combustion engine (1) by means of calculation, enables a plausibility control to be carried out or the substitution of the air mass sensor signal (L_1) if interference is detected in terms of said signal (L_1), thus ensuring that the internal combustion engine (1) can continue to be operated in an optimum manner.

A device for detecting the rotation speed signals of a control unit which regulates the supply of fuel to an internal combustion engine involves the use of an (inductive) pulse generator jointly with a proven sensing technique. The moment of detection of the rotation speed signal may be freely controlled during a rotation of the crankshaft and/or the camshaft. This minimizes the time interval between the detection of the signal and the extraction of the output signals which vary with the rotation speed signal. Phase rotation in the regulating circuit is thus minimized and the dynamic behaviour is thereby considerably improved.
