Abstract: A pitot tube (10) includes a wall (12) that extends longitudinally along an axis (14). The wall (12) defines an inlet aperture (16) at a longitudinal end of the wall, an outlet aperture opposite the inlet aperture (16), an interior cavity extending from the inlet aperture (16) to an outlet aperture, a passage (22) extending through and perpendicular to the wall (12) having an outlet (30) along an exterior surface (26) of the wall (12), and an augmenting feature (32) configured to reduce a static pressure at the outlet (30) of the passage (22). In another embodiment, a wall (12) defines a passage (22) and an augmenting feature (32) that modifies a flow direction of fluid flowing across an outlet (30) of the passage (22) such that a static pressure of the fluid at the outlet (30) is reduced relative to the wall (12) without the augmenting feature (32).

The drive shaft (18) is configured to rotate and cause the wiper arm with the coupled wiper blade to sweep across the windshield. The wiper arm (14) includes both composite and metal components to reduce the weight of the windshield wiper system while also providing lightning strike protection.

Abstract: A method of controlling a windshield wiper assembly with configurable variable sweep angle or variable sweep speed in a vehicle. The method includes operably connecting a bidirectional motor (24, 24') in a vehicle wiper system (10), commanding an operation of the motor (24, 24') in a selected direction at a selected motor speed, the motor speed selected to achieve at least one of a configured wiper arm sweep speed and a configured sweep angle, and selecting at least one of a duration and a motor reversal position for end of sweep to achieve the configured sweep angle for the wiper arm. After at least one of the duration and reaching the motor reversal position, the method includes directing the motor (24, 24') in the opposite direction at another motor speed, the another motor speed selected to achieve another configured wiper arm speed, and repeating the commanding, selecting and directing. Finally, the method includes configuring at least one of the sweep angle, the sweep speed, the duration, the reversal position and the repeating.
