A slide (8) is mounted in a guide at the bottom of the breech (3)/breech carrier so as to be displaceable at a right angle to the direction of fire, a groove (9) extending over the entire width thereof. The respective engaging cam (7) entrains the breech (3) in a forward motion in relation to the direction of fire or in a reverse motion once the shot is fired. The engaging cam (7) transporting the breech (3) forwards is displaced out from the groove (9) and is moved backwards without the breech (3) on the other weapon side, thereby allowing rest periods of the breech (3) in the forward end position. Once the shot is fired, the slide (8) is displaced to the other weapon side whereas it remains in the position in which it was put down by the engaging cam (7) when no shot is fired so that no further engaging cam (7) can entrain the breech (3) backwards.
