The invention is characterized in that the oscillating circuit comprises at least one analog-to-digital converter (A/D). The invention also relates to a method for operating an oscillating circuit wherein a mechanical oscillator (SE) oscillates with a natural frequency. The oscillation amplitude is measured (D1, D2) and digitized (A/D). A digital amplitude regulator (AGC) uses said amplitude to generate a digital feedback signal (210) which in turn is used to generate a drive signal (120) which drives the mechanical oscillator (SE) using a drive (A1, A2). This regulator circuit stabilizes the oscillation amplitude.
