The invention relates to an optically pumped solid state laser comprising a laser medium (1) that is surrounded by a pump-beam reflector (7), which has at least one opening (8) for coupling the pump beam (14) that is emitted from a pump-beam source (9) into the pump-beam reflector (7). A beam guidance lens or beam shaping lens (10, 11; 11a-i) is located between the pump-beam source (9) and the laser medium (1). Said lens comprises at least one optical element (11; 11a-i), which is positioned in the beam path of the pump-beam source (9) inside the pump-beam reflector (7). The optical element (11; 11a-i) modifies at least one part of the pump beam (14), which is directly oriented towards the laser medium (1), with regard to its power density distribution.
