The invention relates to novel compositions of material which can be used as lubricants and pressure transmitting means or for functional liquids and lubricant additives in an advantageous manner. The inventive lubricants represent the reaction product of an electrophilic addition of linear or branched aliphatic or aromatic carboxylic acids, carboxylic acid anhydrides, carboxylic acid halogenides or novel neo acids to the double bonds of fatty acids, the esters thereof and/or other fatty acid derivatives as well as of synthetic esters. The novel class of compounds of synthetic esters on the basis of oleo chemicals can be used in novel environmentally friendly lubricants, pressure transmitting systems, functional liquids and lubricant additives by virtue of the increased oxidation resistance compared with the starting materials and by virtue of the low toxicity thereof.
