The composition of this invention is a stabilized acidic bleaching composition comprising an aqueous solution of a source of source of unipositive chlorine ion, a chlorine stabilizing agent, and an acidic buffer to stabilize the pH of the bleaching composition in the range from about 2 to 6.5, wherein the chlorine stabilizing agent and the source of source of unipositive chlorine ion are in a molar ratio of greater than about 1:1. Methods are described for removal of lime scale from a hard surface controlling microbial activity as well as reducing malodor by applying the composition of this invention.

Self-adhesive detergent compositions are described including a pH-sensitive color-changing system. The color-changing system is useful with certain acidic compositions and certain alkaline compositions. The compositions have a given color upon application to a hard surface, e.g., a toilet bowl. In one embodiment, when the self-adhesive composition is exposed to a water-based rinse, such as on flushing a toilet, the color-changing system provides the released cleaning portion of the composition, and thereby the water, with a color different from the color of the composition to indicate cleaning is occurring. In another embodiment, following exposure to a plurality of rinses, the color-changing system changes the color of the composition when the composition is near depletion to provide an “end-of-use” cue. In another embodiment, the color-changing system indicates dual functions by changing the color of the composition to another color when the composition is physically mixed with a rinse to provide manual cleaning.

Surfactant-thickened active chlorine-containing bleach compositions including at least one water soluble anionic styrenic polymer are described. The styrenic polymer serves to improve the rheology properties of the thickened bleach composition. The thickened bleach composition additionally includes a surfactant-based thickening system including an amine oxide, and an alkaline agent to maintain the pH of the composition at about 10 or greater. The amine oxide includes at least 75% of one or more C14-C18 alkyl dimethyl amine oxides. The thickened bleach compositions have reduced viscosity, decreased elastic properties, with improved flow and pour properties resulting from the inclusion of the styrenic polymer.

A method is provided for the reduction or elimination of malodors from air and surfaces within an indoor environment using vapor phase hydrogen peroxide generated from passive evaporation from pH neutral to mildly acidic aqueous-based liquid compositions. Another method is provided for the reduction or elimination of malodors from air and surfaces within an indoor environment using vapor phase hydrogen peroxide sublimed from solid compositions containing at least one pH neutral to mildly acidic solid hydrogen peroxide-containing compound.

A cleaning composition for removing kinetically inert high oxidation state metal coordination complex stains, lime scale, soap scum, soil, grease, and biofilm deposits from ceramic surfaces, such as porcelain and glass, and other hard surfaces. The composition includes an acid component; a reducing component; a surfactant system component; and a complexing system component. In one aspect, the cleaning composition includes sulfamic acid, in an amount between about 20 and about 80 weight percent of the composition; isoascorbic acid, in an amount between about 0.1 and about 20 weight percent of the composition, for reducing kinetically inert high oxidation state metal coordination complex stains; a non-interfering surfactant system; and a complexing system comprising ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid and citric acid, the ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid comprising between about 0.01 and about 10 weight percent of the composition, and the citric acid comprising between about 5 and about 45 weight percent of the composition. In another aspect, the invention also relates to methods for cleaning and removing complex stains from surfaces.

Disclosed herein are bleaching systems that contain a peroxide and an activator. The activator is a cyanopyridine N-oxide, preferably 2, 3, or 4-cyanopyridine N-oxide. The peroxide is preferably hydrogen peroxide. When such bleaching systems are utilized in an aqueous alkaline environment, they provide bleaching performance on a variety of stains on both hard and soft surfaces.

Disclosed are replaceable cleaning pads (10) capable of delivering a bleaching agent (20) and a detersive composition (23) to surfaces being cleaned. The pads are constructed to retain bleach (20) separate from detersive ingredients (23) and certain other chemicals prior to use, yet permit rapid delivery of the combined chemicals to the surface being cleaned once the pad (10) is wetted. Most preferably a detersive mixture is melt-anchored to the pad. In one form, the pad is a two layer (12,14) pad, and in another form, the pad is a three layer pad (12,14,15).
