The present invention relates to a process control apparatus of electrophotographic apparatus comprising: density detecting means (16) for optically detecting density of a reference toner image on a photoreceptor (1); residual electric potential erase means (13) for erasing a residual electric potential on said photoreceptor (1); temperature detecting means (33) for detecting a temperature inside said electrophotographic apparatus; and means (19) for controlling said density detecting means (16) and residual electric potential erase means (13) so that the density of the reference toner image is detected after erasing the residual electric potential on said photoreceptor (1) when the detected temperature is not higher than a predetermined temperature. In this way, the density of the reference toner image is accurately detected and a picture quality correction is carried out in accordance with the detected result.
