Different processes have been proposed particularly for exhaust gas purification of pollutants, particularly from internal combustion engines or other machines operated with fossil fuels. According to the invention, the exhaust gas (GF) containing the pollutants flows through a reactor volume charged with non-thermal gas emissions and is thereby brought into contact- at least one time, preferably several times- with a solid reducing (RM). This reducing agent can particularly consist of carbon fibers. A suitable device for combining dialectrically-inhibited discharges with the reduction of the gas emissions has means (10) for field magnification in the reactor which are at largely periodic intervals.

The fitting of measuring means between a contact and the appropriate contact base to monitor contact wear is known. According to the invention, an electrically insulated signal line which can be fitted in individual and/or several contacts is used as a measuring means, with the signal line integrated into a single monitoring circuit. In the relevant switching device there is an electrical conductor (4, 100, 300) with insulation (3, 43, 53, 63) as the signal line between at least one of the contacts (1, 11, 21, 31; 41, 51, 61) and the relevant contact base (2; 12, 22, 52), in which damage to or destruction of the insulation (3, 43, 53, 63) and/or the conductor (4, 100, 300) is used to generate an external signal as an indication of the end of the useful life of the contact (1; 11, 21, 31, 41, 51, 61).

According to the invention, this occurs in that electrical post-arc currents are measured after current zero, the electrical post-arc currents are compared with a pre-set limit, and, if the limit is exceeded, a signal is produced triggering the primary power circuit breaker in the switchgear. This process can be carried out to particular advantage in vacuum circuit-breakers with at least one vacuum interrupter. The related arrangement has a device (5, 51) which monitors the secondary power circuit breakers (21, 22) and optionally triggers the higher-voltage power circuit breakers (2).

A changeable high-current resistor for use as a protective component in power switching technology has already been proposed, containing carbon as the resistor material, in which there is a boundary area with a transition region to another electrical conductor. If pressure is applied, the resistor can be kept low-ohmic in the transition region. In the present state of the art of the heat generated by the current in the resistor is transferred to the high-ohmic state. According to the invention, the pressure on the changeable high-current resistor can be suitable affected. The carbon and/or soot-containing layer (11) can be pressed by the force with a predetermined first degree of pressure on the other conductor (12, 13) to set the low-ohmic state of the resistor and, in short-circuit conditions, the pressure can be reduced within a sufficiently short time to a second degree at which the resistance in the transition region (15) increases by at least two orders of magnitude. Such high-current resistors (10) may be used in conjunction with power switches, power semiconductors, contactors and vacuum switches.

Intensive pressure waves can be used as shock waves for medico-technical applications, specially for lithotripsy and/or pain therapy. To this end, sound waves with high energy density are produced by pressure pulsations. According to the invention, the pressure waves are produced by briefly heating a conductive electrolyte, wherein an electrical impulse is used for direct and substantially loss-free conversion of electrical energy in order to heat the electrolyte. A pertaining device to carry out said method is characterized by an arrangement of two electrodes (1, 2, 7, 8, 21, 22) which contain one electrolyte (3) and are controlled by an output pulse generator (5), wherein the sound waves are decoupled by suitable means into a sound propagating medium (4).
